Forget what you may have heard about fish kills on Lake Whitney in Texas, the stripers are coming on very strong this year. I believe they are starting to adapt to the Golden Algae Plague as some may call it. In just the three months this year has been going there have been many upon many good stringers caught with catches averaging from 10-15lbs and have been quite a few fish caught over the 20lb mark.  Most of the catches so far have been coming on live minnows and/or green bucktail striper jigs. There have been some rare topwater action going on in the Towash Creek area, but so far that is just rumor.

Largemouth Bass have been suprisingly good in the last couple of weeks for me. Ive caught several in the 3lb range with a couple over 4lbs...those 5-6lb bass are just barely out of reach i do believe. I really dont know who writes the fishing reports on the texas parks and wildlife website, but ive only gotten fish from tequilla sunrise powerworms and perch colored crankbaits running 10-12 feet. Seems all of my catches have been along main lake points and have not seen any beds being fanned just yet in the shallows.

Anyways, this is just a local update for those of you who may live near or like to fish lake whitney.
