Fished BLT on Lewisville yesterday. I had laid my rod down on the front deck of the boat with the line still out in the water. There was a split shot rigged 7" power worm at the end of the line. While trying to revive a fish, I noticed the tip on my rod bend. Thinking that I was hung up due to just dragging the worm, I picked up my rod to try and free the thought to be snag.

When I pulled on my line, it pulled back. So I made a swing to set the hook then game on. Line started singing off of my reel. I looked at my partner and told him this was a big fish and that if it was a Bass, we were going to weigh in as soon as we got it in the boat.

The fish made several runs on me pulling more drag so John jumped up on the trolling motor to try and run the fish down. After a few minutes of a great fight, we got the fish in the net. It was the biggest Hybrid I have ever caught.

I use Cull M Rite scales in the boat and the scales have a maximum one fish weight of 15 lbs. We put this fish on the scale and it immediately flashed zero's across the screen. Never even tried to calculate the weight. So at a minimum, this fish was over 15 lbs. If I had to guess, I would say it was probably closer to 17 but I will never know.

Fish was released alive to fight again and make for a great catch.

I thought about putting it in one of the live wells but we had fish in both of them. If it were not for the tournament we were fishing, we probably would have held on to it but I never thought of it being a record fish. There are a lot of giant hybrids that are caught all the time. I guess from now on, I will be checking the records for each lake that I fish before I go.

And just to give perspective on how big the fish actually is, if you noticed, my arms are not extended out like most people do when taking a pic of a fish.

That's a big fish.  I hooked into 2 back last Fall within 5 minutes of each other while bass fishing.  They were both around 8 or 9 lbs.  I thought I had the lake record the way they fought.

That is an awesome hybrid!! The state record is just 19.66lbs...you put it back so given a couple years and there will be a state record swimming around the lake. Nice catch!
