Fished O'connor Monday and Tuesday with my good friends Steve and Phil Hinds. We bought some live shrimp and frozen Sardines just in case the cast net did not get us the desired bait. There was evidence of the red tide in the ship channel as we saw quite a few floaters around the ramp. Marina owner confirmed it was from the red tide.

We got plenty of pin perch and finger mullet in Little Mary's cut, then headed out to the jetty's about 8 am. We struggled till about 11 am when all hell broke loose. In the next 45 to 50 minutes we landed 29 reds, only 2 of which were overs. We had 4 triples and one of those a quad as we had an extra rod down for a while. Absolute mayhem, sweat pouring off us, laughing, cussing, netting, boat flipping, break offs, swapping rods as fish crossed under and over anothers rod.

As soon as it started, it was over. I don't know how big the school was that passed under us was, but substantial for sure. 29 landed and a dozen more lost or broken off in less than an hour. The type bait you had down made no difference during this action.

Tuesday started off slow again as we were redfish less till after lunch. At one time we were 10 yards away from a boat that landed 8, while we had one on and it broke Steve off in the rocks. Slack tide hit and we went to a spot that is tough to anchor on in any tide at all, as soon as the tide started turning, the bulls showed up and Steve got a 39 and a 43, Phil lost 2, the anchor broke free and we were never able to get back in the magic depth of 26 feet again.

My assessment is the reds are just now coming to the jetty's and the next month should be awesome. Hope you get down there!!
