Spent the holiday weekend fishing the Port OConner jetties and had a blast except for Saturday. Saturday was a day we didn't catch a single red and caught only a couple trout that made the dinner table. We did find where we could catch our own bait with relative ease though which served us well for the next two days. Sunday morning we went and caught mullet in a cast net first thing then we went to the inside of the jetties and saw birds working so we made a drift through the area. For the next hour it was game on, catching 1 or 2 fish on every drift. Mostly reds but an occasional Jack. All reds were oversized up to 42". After that the fishing wasn't very good but we made a short day of it. Monday we did the same thing but this time the reds were working the surface. The school was near 100 yards wide as they chased the bait. First drift all three of us in the boat hooked up. We landed 2 reds that were 46" and another around 38". The 46" is my new PB. That action lasted for an hour or so and we had many doubles and triples. After that action died we moved to another location and tore em up again. This spot consisted of mainly jacks but we caught a few reds as well. It was scrape fishing from hell, working your but off for five or ten minutes fighting a fish then wondering if you really wanted to drop your line again cause you knew it was going to be another battle right away. I
Have no clue what happened Saturday but Sunday and Monday sure made up for it. Looking forward to going back again.
