I can't seem to find a skeg gaurd that is specifically made to fit on the Yammy HPDI. Does anyone have expierence using one that is not specific to that engine?

I bought one for my OX66 after I got a chip but never put it on. Seems like the consensus on BBC was, "don't do it". I wasn't excited about drilling a hole in the skeg anyway.  Grin

I also believe there is a lot of negatives and not many positives about it.  You can get a skeg fixed for a little over a hundred bucks.

For Mike it would mean he'd knock off the skeg and the guard. Grin

LOL.  That is true.

Brian - it is mainly drag.  It will slow your boat on top end, sometimes 2-3 mph.  Secondly, it can affect your steering - if you have hydraulic, you will probably not notice it.  But if it affects your steering, then you know it is introducing drag.  Thirdly, if you go buy a boat and it has one on it, then good chance the skeg is missing underneath it.  Just creates a question for the buyer.

All my opinions, so take it for what its worth.

Mike-Thanks for the feedback..Could be the reason my boat is a little slower than I thought it should be...

they don't make one for the HPDI.   won't go over the built iin torque tab.

 have it repaired.

seen guys waste 150.00 on the skeg gaurd, slows the boat down, and the it will crack also. on the back side they are known for splitting.

KeelShield Marine makes some. Here's the size chart

If I can help you out, let me know.
I agree w/Kernan. It could have a few adverse performace issues, but certainly works as an alternate to keep on fishing until the official repair can be made.

Ive got a 89 nitro with 150hp mariner...high five prop, dont really believe it would matter if i put skeg guard on mine or not...it's slow anyways...ugh. 55-58 is max. I would really suggest finding someone that could weld it up and file form it. Ive always approved of that over skeg guards.
