Since I don’t sit while fishing and only pull the seat out in rough water I wanted to figure out if I could come up with a compact, inexpensive and easy to store leaning post.

I picked up a bike seat from Target that is made by Schwinn.  I had an old seat post to experiment with so what the heck…I modified it.  First I had to trim the seat mount a bit to enable it to fit under the bike seat.  I also had to trim a bit of the plastic off the bottom if the Schwinn and fit it on the post.  I picked up some Stainless Steel hardware at Lowes to replace the hardware that came with the seat.  Tighten everything down and I now have a small leaning type seat for the boat.  It stores in a rod locker easily and makes for more room on the front or back deck.  Note:  It is a small seat so it is not for the gravity enhanced.

Great idea.

Maybe you could add a cup holder on there also for those hot summer refreshments.

The best lean pole is the back off an old office chair.  Just weld a post to it and drop it in the pedistal.  It is curver for the lower back and doesn't get in the way in the storage box because it is flat.
