I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me out.  My trolling motor shaft does not line up in its spot when I pull it up and lay it on the deck.  It falls to the side of the groove it is supposed to fall in.  I have not hit anything and there is no reason anything should be bent.  When I pull it up out of the water I have to take extra caution to be sure and let it fall where it is supposed to go.  Any advice or tips on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.    Its a MinnKota Fortrex.

Best guess....Could be that it is not mounted level and it is torqued a bit making the head land out of alignment.  May need shims.  Jeromy could give you a better idea.

I would look at the alignment like John suggested. Shim it if you need to. Be sure the collar assembly is mounted securely on the bow arm.

Brad I should have known after all the MinnKotas we have been through.  Something about all that metal showing made me think it would be a beast.

Thanks guys for your help.  I am going to work on it tonight so I can give you guys more info and try to better explain.  I bought it brand new and put it on myself (maybe the problem).  Seemed like it has always had this problem.  Sometimes it will fall where it needs to but most of the time it seems to fall off to the side.

My closest MinnKota service guy is a sour deal artist and still has my older one so I wanted to try and get it working myself.  It is fishable but with it being pretty new I was hoping to not have to worry about being extremely careful and trying to line it up each time.  Thanks again guys.

Probably needs the shim like suggested.  If the allen bolt gets loose, it will also torque to one side.

I am NOT a fan of the fortrex mount.  But I also believe that a troll motor should be capable of running on 100% for longer than one minute (sorry, nothing but bad memories of the mg).  So I still get the minnkota.

Kellen, I am not sure where you are located, but seeing that your not happy with your local service center, If I may suggest John Jones At Jones Trolling Motor Service here in Texarkana if you are anywhere near this area, he is worth giving a call. He is a good person and will do all he can to get you going. I have had several jobs done by John, including Mounting my new Minn Kota on my Cat. Hope this helps, Shims are what is needed Iform the way it sounds, I know John had to put a couple on mine.  Good luck with your Motor
