This weekend I had some problems with my engine.  It wouldnt get above 4300 rpm's or 50mph.  Extremely sluggish out of the hole and sounded like it had something choking it.  Im not sure if this is a firing issue, fuel injection issue, or..?  By the end of the day, my batteries drained and I couldnt get her to start, maybe I have a bad cranking battery?  Would that have this effect?  I plan on taking it to Tommy's, but would love to get her fixed myself.  The engagement ring put one hell of a dent in my boat fund.

first check your plugs.

Then check your fuel pumps.

While you are at it, drop your fuel filter/water separator and drain it.  If neither fix the problem, then I would bet it is either the fuel filter we cannot easily get to or injector issues.

I had a similar problem on a Yamaha 4 stroke.  I cleaned the fuel filter that we are supposed to clean for regular maintenance.  Still did it.  Then took it to the shop and there was an internal filter that a mechanic could get to.  They cleaned that and it was fixed after that.  Of course it blew up 6 months later.

If its a Merc Opti I know they are really sensistive to battery/voltage issues. it can actually cause them to run a bit rougher if battery is low or weak.
