I recieved an email in regards to my good buddy Robert Hargrove. He went into the hospital recently with strep throat and things turned for the worse. He apparently had a heart attack while in the hospital and is in ICU at Baylor. They are not letting him have any visitors yet and I am trying to get more info.
Robert has been with the Century Bass Club since day one and has never missed a tournament since 1976. He is a legend as far as local area anglers but more importantly he is definitely one of the nicest men that has ever walked this earth. I was lucky enough to be a team partner of his for a couple of years in Anglers Choice as well as other trails and spent many weekends at the lake with him.
He is one really tough old bird but I ask that you take a moment to say a little prayer for him. I will pass on any info as I get it.

I haven't spoken to anyone in the family yet, just some second hand info. Apparently he didn't have a heart attack. He is being tested I believe for either a blood disorder or some type of infection. He is still in ICU and not able to see visitors. I think they have been running cultures to try to pinpoint the problem and his blood pressure and heart rate are really erratic. I will try to find out something definite and pass it on when it is available. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I have spoken to Robert's daughter and he is improving a little. It now appears that Robert did have a mild heart attack but some good news is that tests that were done didn't show any real damage to the valves like they thought might have happened. They are still running tests to see if they can pinpoint exactly what type of infection it is but at least there has been improvement so far.
Please keep him in your thoughts.
Thanks, Tommy

Just a quick update on Robert. I have talked to him a few times the last couple of weeks. He is at his son's house and on strong IV antibiotics for a couple of more weeks and doing rehab. He has been working hard to try to be able to walk his daughter down the isle this weekend since she is getting married. He still needs help but he is getting stronger every day and is feeling better and chomping at the bit to get back to fishing sometime in the next couple of months. Robert is a tough old bird and I am so glad to see him getting back to health so he can get back out in the outdoors. Thanks for everyone's prayers and thoughts. He really appreciated it.

Another update on Robert.
His buddy Charlie Avant picked him up and took him to his place at Fork for the last few days. Robert even made it out on Charlie's boat for a couple of hours two different days and even caught a few fish. He is still rehabing and getting stronger each day but has to have the help of a cane to walk right now. It was windy and he got a little wet but like he told me he was so glad to be out on the water nothing was going to spoil the fun. It is funny how some things that are a nuisance when you are fishing all of the time are no big deal at all when you are kept from fishing for one reason or another. Each day is a blessed day when you are able to get out with a good fishing buddy and I am glad Robert has Charlie as one of his buddies and know how much he appreciates him.

Robert came to weigh in for our Century Bass Club tournament yesterday on Tawakoni. It was great to see him getting out a little but he still has a long road ahead of him for recovery. He had surgery to take out a part of one of his rib bones and still has one IV in and taking antibiotics for at least 6 more weeks. I am not familiar with Staph infections but I can tell you I don't want any part of what Robert has had to deal with. Any prayers and well wishes for Robert would be appreciated.

I saw him at the Century weigh in, he looked good with that big smile on his face.  It was great to see Robert on his feet!

Robert is one tough dude!

Robert is back in the hospital again. Seems as though he has gotten another infection in the spinal area. He is having tests done and the surgeons will get with him to see what needs to be done to get it taken care of. He has had a rough time lately and it is continuing to be a long road to recovery for him.
Prayers and well wishes are needed to help Robert through this tough time.

I spoke with Robert today and he is room 1021 at Baylor. They are back to fighting the infection with anti-biotics again in an IV and hopefully this will take care of it and no surgery will be involved. He is really tired of the whole ordeal so hopefully he can get over this in the near future and get back to the outdoors. Please give him a call if you get a chance because I know he would appreciate any well wishes from everyone. 972-814-7412
