Carl and others. I'd like you to comment on his fish care techniques when the Jordan lake BASS episode airs. Curious to see if you all feel he did something wrong to lose so many fish.(besides running a Triton i mean. Wink

Good point, as he was the only one that seemed to be having issues.

Jim, I read on a website a quote from Aaron Martens himself.  The jist of his quote was that the surface water temperature was 90+ degrees and he believes that he "shocked" the fish with too much ice trying to cool the water temp down in the livewell.  Something like he cooled the water down 20 degrees too fast.

I can't remember the website I read this from but that is the jist of his comments.

What depth was he catching the fish from ? If it is from deep water, the boy obviously doesn't understand that the water temp can be that much lower than the surface temp. . Lots of variables need to be found out. 1. Actual water temp in his livewell. 2. D.O. reading of the water in his livewell. 3. Depth of water fish came from. 4. Where the thermocline was and the temp difference at that level. 5. DID HE ADD ADDATIVES TO NUETRALIZE THE CHLORINE FROM THE ICE AND IF ADDED WHEN WAS IT ADDED. BEFORE OR AFTER THE FISH WERE PUT IN THE LIVEWELL 6. Was his livewell cleaned with chemicals before hand and not flushed out. 7. Did he only put fresh water in the livewell once during the day or run fresh through it continually. 8. Was his through the mouth fizzing technique successful or did he hit the artery. Or did he fizz them at all. If I remember right he usually fizzes often to control barotrauma 9. Did he have an oxygenator in his livewell and add a powder addative, no matter what brand. This situation causes problems. 10. Where did he fill his livewell at ? The ramp or his first stop ? 11. Did he keep the aereator part of his livewell on continously .
Those are just some of the questions that need to be found out before an opinion can be formed. If he lost that many fish something obviously was afoul. You also have to remember bass are cold blooded creatures. They are a product of their environment as far as temperature is concerned. It was stated that nobody else had those problems. I would like to see how many went into an ice chest afterwards. I would also like to know how many were fizzed at the weigh-in and ALL THE AIR LET OUT like I caught them doing it here at Amistad. Out of sight , out of mind. Another interesting question would be how many anglers actually did fish care . I know a lot of them don't do anything at all and have stated as such. They don't want a dead fish penalty so they don't do anything other than livewell operation. They die afterwards, but they are alive on the scale. Just some questions and thoughts. Most likely by watching the show we probably won't see too much. Or maybe we will. When will it air ?

I think Carl was right on with the Ice without the chlorine neutralizer. I noticed when he added the ice the water was clear & it looked clear when he was trying to resuscitate the fish.

Noticed the same. He was fizzing though and he did release fish when he realized there were problems.

I guess it is possible for him to make the mistake of no additives, but for a PRO angler to make that huge a mistake and allow fish to die in such mumbers is pretty shocking.

Just shows how uneducated anglers really are. If the pro's do not know just think how many weekenders are unaware.

This is true...Also fished a tourny once and it seemed like no one cared at all. . I'm waist deep at the ramp trying to revive someone elses fish they just tossed after weigh-in....5lbr just struggling!! I don't think I will ever fish this tourny series again...keep in mind it was a $25 small club tourny..  .
