Has anyone seen this unit in action looking to put it on a pontoon for crappie  fishing

not on the water, but I did play with them for a couple days at bass pro shops. I believe humminbird got this one right, as opposed to the other company that sells them. You have the option of traditional 2d sonar OR down imaging.. you can also split the view and see both on the screen.  I believe you will be very pleased with the purchase. but remember, you really need to be moving for the graph to draw a definitive picture of the bottom structure in down imaging. what you see on the screen is "history", and if you dont move, then history is repeating itself and it is not a very definite picture.

well i did buy this one and it works really well got it mounted beside a 728 that was upgraded with gps and side view and now i can really see what i just went over with really good detail for the price vs a 798 or 998 its right there with them
