Has anyone any experience with the culmrite scale?

Is it a good one? Pros/Cons

I still have 2 of the old origionals marketed by Stren. I had to send one in for repair one time, but i have been very pleased with mine. I promise you i have had both for 13 to 15 years i bet. Keep them dry!! I keep mine in an old hard cover box that the old lowrance graphs were sold in.

They are consistenty very accurate too.Sometimes as a guide, they bite me in the ass though. I get a customer all jacked up holding his fish, thinking he has a nine or ten and you gotta weigh it and break it to him, it does not weigh what it looks. I need to get those x scales that a lotta guides use. Word is you can do something to them to make em weigh heavy! Grin

I have two also.  The orginal with the buttons, and the new one with the flat touch surface.  I use the new one regularly and keep the other as a back up.

In my opinion there is not another set of scales out there that compare to the Cul-M-Rite scales.  I just recently bought a backup after mine went out this fall. I cant stand eye balling them or going through all the fish and putting them on a balance beam.  Saves a ton of time.

For a long time I have just used a balance beam...  But this summer I think that cost me...  I was catching a bunch of keepers and having to cull a bunch (its rare that this happens I know)...  But a couple of my fish didnt make it that were healthy before...  I think the in and out of the livewell putting on a beam in the intense heat was a bad thing...

I am thinking that Cul M Rite is the way to go...  Are the new ones worth the price?  Best place to get one?

They are worth the price. They last a long time. I bought mine from Yamamoto.

I agree that they are good but there is ONE BIG downside  The stupid thing has a 9V battery that only the people at Cul-M-Rite can replace because it has to be re-calibrated.  I sent mine in earlier this summer and it took 9 WEEKS to get it back.  I would email them to check the status and all they would say is, we have received it but we are very busy at this time.  When I asked the guy how long, he seriously replied, " A While"....

I will not buy another one because of that reason.

Brady, I think that turn around time is terrible.

If they had a 2 week turn around then it would be exceptable?

Maring, buy Tim Clines old one. They just use a regular 9 volt you can replace yourself. I do always keep  a spare battery in my box with it.

Besides, it will make you smarter than Winans, always a good thing! Wink

I had heard stories like Bradys before I sent mine in a month ago but I had both of mine back in 1 week.

Just an FYI here. I had my 14 year old cullemrites tested for accuracy last week with a weight that had been weighed previously on a certified scale. One weighed it 4#14oz, the other 4#15 oz. Pretty close for as old as they are.
