Looks like after the ERCOT study and without help from US Court of Appeals, Monticello Units 1 and 2 will be shut down.  Guess those individuals that are laid off can either go build windmills for T Boone Pickens or pour concrete and lay rebar for Obama's road projects that created millions of jobs........ Roll Eyes

Can't wait until August when we're all sitting in the dark sweating our asses off with no electricity and ERCOT says "we aren't sure what happened, again."

Welsh is scheduled to be shut down permanently in 2014 also... I have yet to read an article anywhere that says the 2 stacks at Monti will be permanently retired like Welsh, so I guess theres hope that the Luminent can get them up to code and back online at some point??? Mabey???

Matt, I believe that Luminant said that they would not invest the necessary money to convert the two units in question at Monticello.  They will basically be kept for emergency use only.

"The agency said the rules, set to take effect in about 60 days, will prevent up to 11,000 premature deaths each year.

The rules will also cost about $10 billion annually while power companies install pollution controls or shut down aging plants that can't comply, and they are expected to reshape the power sector as companies switch to cleaner-burning fuels such as natural gas."

Yep.  It was some great timing.  There was no back up to any failure in the grid.  Which is exactly what ERCOT is setting the system up for again.

I talked with a man that is a electrican with the coal minning part out there. They are running out of coal on the north side . Where they have been minning for years. They have the rights to plenty of coal on the south end. The company does not have or does not want to spend the money to  move the mine and put the necessary scrubbers in so they are just going to shut two of the generators down. The other generator is equipped to burn Wyoming coal which burns cleaner and they will continue by shipping in coal.
Alot of good paying jobs will be lost.
