So, we have all been there, watching that infomercial and thinking to ourselves, that bait looks awesome. We rush to the phone and place our order, then wait with ever increasing anticipation of the packages arrival.  Ready to take that lure and destroy our friends with our new secret weapon. Unfortunately when it arrivals you soon discover that this lure was designed to catch more humans than fish....LOL

So, I am interested in hearing all of the great lures that could have been:

Mine is a lure that I cant remember the name however you tied directly on to an o ring that was attached to a string. The lure floated on top pf the water. You would jerk the bait pulling the string which would activate the tail. The lure would vibrate around in a circle for about 3 seconds. Never caught a thing but always was waiting for that big bite.

So tell us you best story.......

DUDE!! My dad bought that lure you mentioned above and actually caught a fish on it with me at Falcon. Just one though. I can't think of the name though? It was advertized by cajun Phil if i remember?

I did an infomercial once for the "instant Fisherman" a telescoping rod and reel. We had the steel prototypes, and only 3 to work with. Joe Fowler was the infomercial host and he and his dad and i filmed on McQueeney lake. The rods were a joke, we could not cast 20 feet. We had to have my buddies Steve and Phil Hinds go out and catch bass so we could hook them up on the rods. I mean everything went wrong. About 2 or so, Joes dad goes to cast and the prototype rod (steel) flies out of his hand and immediately sinks to the bottom. The producer, director, whatever the guy was just loses it, bad.

I felt bad for the Dad, he was 70 years old, stuff happens. I was so happy to get back to the dock. We filmed 6 hours and when the infomercial came out a year or two later, they had used 5 seconds of the days filming.

Rule of thumb:  buy nothing from infomercials.  Didn't I see a guy fighting a marlin on one of those pocket fishermen commercials?  LOL

However I will admit, in the tackle biz, you must always first catch the fisherman. If you can't do that, then your product has no chance to prove itself. The othe important part of the process is that your product must perform!  Without that, there is no return business and no positive word of mouth. If you don't have both of thos working for you, you will fail.  With my little paint biz, I do the absolut best I can to paint patterns that are different from others and that are as realistic as I canmake them. This catches fishermen. But I only paint patterns that actually look like specific baitfish so I have 100% confidence they will get bit. And lastly I only paint proven lures such as Normans, LC, etc.  I already know that a DD22 is a fish catching machine so it's a perfect bait for a fancypaint job. I know they're going to catch them on that bait and I hope a lake specific paint job will get them a few more bites. And that's the return business part.

That's it "Kick Tail" ya I have one that looks like a goldfish. It just sits there and flops around. Never even had a strike.

There is no way you can't mention the Banjo Minnow in this post when talking about fishing infomercials! I had to buy some one time! I admit it!

Those "Banjo Minnows" are bad-ass, at least the older ones that actually resembled a shad worked real well. Hey Gandy, I have a credit card and nowhere to spend it....

I actually won a tournament on the Walking Worm at Amistad.  I like to use it on a dropshot rig.  Just hang that weight up for a few seconds and let the worm have time to curel back up and they will bite.

That bait caught the living crap out of bass in the farm tanks I fished around Castroville. Worked on channel cats too. We had a lot of locusts fall in the water, and it looks just like one that is still alive. Mimicked it with a baby torpedo afterwords by shaking my rod tip and make the bait look like a live bug. Deadly !
