Weak sauce on their part. They're argument is that it takes the "sporting manner" out of it because it's a chunk and wind lure. Rules Committee members believe the rig eliminates some of the skill that should be required in tournament competition at the highest level. “It doesn’t matter how you work it,” said one of the anglers. “The fish can’t help themselves.” So are they going to ban rattle traps and crank baits? Spinnerbaits? Pretty much any bait you give to the guy you take fishing that doesn't really fish? Those baits don't require a lot of skills to be effective fish catchers. So now it's all texas rigs and a few top waters? Rattle traps if to cross your heart and hope to die that you're ripping it and not just reeling it back in? BASS is trying to appear high and mighty from the wording of this article. The tone is "Let those barbarians over at FLW and The Opens throw their cheater rigs." I want to hear who exactly was so strongly opposed to it because before this ruling came out almost every elite series pro you saw quoted was in favor of the rig and fired up to use it. If they're afraid of opening Pandora's box, put a limit on it. Say no more than five wires, but don't try to limit innovation. That's what this sport has lacked for so long and so sorely needs. Someone decides they're tired rebuilding the wheel with new worms, thinks outside the box and comes up with something completely new they take a dump on it.
